Washington Post under Trump: "151,000 jobs is solid"

Washington Post under Biden: "194,000 jobs is another weak month"

Putin was counting on Trump. He was Russiaโ€™s only hope. And Trump is now delivering for Putin.

U.S. foreign policy of the last eighty years (the years since WWII) has ended, and in its place, naked opportunism (see also Trump's design on Gaza). Europe can no longer rely on the U.S. as an ally - the degree to which it will become an enemy <cough, cough, Greenland> remains to be seen. (3/3)

Whatever else anyone can say about Reagan, there is zero possibility that he would have supported Russia's invasion of a democracy (or that he would blame the invasion on the country that was invaded). (2/3)

It was quite evident before, but yesterday's ambush of Zelenskyy was the final break. Republicans still standing in support of Trump can no longer cling to the notion that theirs is the party of Reagan. (1/3)

It's almost funny (ok, it's not at all funny) how when Biden was president, Republicans kept suing Biden and executive agencies on grounds they were exceeding their authority under the law. Now, when Trump and DOGE aren't merely trying to interpret the law, but blatantly disregarding it, <crickets>.

I donโ€™t think thatโ€™s very clear at all. Trump and his Nazi billionaire friend are trying to destroy government of the people, by the people, and for the people. Anyone still on their side doesnโ€™t want to work with you ever again. And the people who are on your side want you to stand in their way.

As someone who has reported on AI for 7 years and covered China tech as well, I think the biggest lesson to be drawn from DeepSeek is the huge cracks it illustrates with the current dominant paradigm of AI development. A long thread. 1/

Bloomberg philanthropy to cover U.S. climate dues after Paris withdrawal Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's philanthropy and other U.S. funders said on Thursday they will cover U.S. financial obligations to the UN climate framework after President Donald Trump called for the U.S. to withdraw - for a second time - from the Paris climate agreement.

After Trump ordered the US to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement, Bloomberg Philanthropies and other U.S. climate funders announced that they will โ€œensure the United States meets its global climate obligations.โ€

A bunch of fascists stand behind a woman who has just quoted scripture and, calling for mercy, as Christ did. They are angry, confused, and despicable because they are all weak little piss babies.

The caption reads "Trump's furious beause as a Bishop, Budde can move as far as she wants diagnoally, but as a Russian pawn he can only move one square at a time." The awards for this caption are not present, but clearly implied.

Let's be clear about what's happening.

Trump is freeing the violent paramilitary wing of his movement from prison in order to:

1) demonstrate that violence committed in service of his objectives will go unpunished, and

2) facilitate future acts of violence in service of his regime.

Just read the response from Costco to shareholders requesting it back down from DEI. It was glorious. It begins "Our Board has considered this proposal and believes โ€ฆ an enterprise rooted in respect and inclusion is appropriate and necessary." and gets better. The Government Is Shutting Down Because Elon Musk Has Factories in China Thereโ€™s a mundane reason for the late-term chaos, and itโ€™s called a conflict of interest.

Here's the truth: Elon Musk doesn't want any restrictions on his investments in China, and that's why we're on the brink of a government shutdown.
This is the first scandal of Trump's second term, and it'll look like a lot of the others: putting personal financial interests above the country's.

(4/4) It's gotta be either 2 or 3 - Johnsonโ€™s speakership depends on Trump's support, and Johnson has already witnessed Trump torpedoing bipartisan bills (e.g., the immigration bill earlier this year). There's simply no way Johnson didn't think to talk with Trump in advance of the deal.

20.12.2024 14:00 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

(3/4) 3. Johnson and Trump (and probably Musk) planned to renege in an attempt to gain a better deal and/or bring about a shutdown unless Democrats completely capitulated.

(2/4) 1. Speaker Johnson is so incompetent that he failed to talk with Trump in advance;
2. Johnson did run it past Trump, only for Trump to later change his mind after Musk started complaining; or

This year, 10 U.S. billionaires gained $787B in wealth.

That's nearly 4X more than the $214B earned annually by all 3.2M U.S. public school teachers combined.

In fact, more wealth went to a *single person* than to all teachers combined. Is that fair?

This is what extreme wealth costs society.
