The trauma and injuries of these imperial enforcers is endlessly valourised in the disgusting propaganda constantly produced without any state coercion by the American entertainment industry. As far as I'm concerned, all of their lauded PTSD is simply a way to say killing brown people upset them too

Americans love to respect their soldiers so let me make this clear: their military is an imperialist bully-squad, deployed worldwide to remind various parts of the world of America's military might, and always ready to kill whichever non-white people are in the current administration's crosshairs.

In Pune’s skies, parrots are a sign of how caste shapes cities The historical allocation of land and who inherits it dictates why some neighbourhoods have birds, tree-lined avenues and far better civic amenities.

Implore everyone to read this fantastic piece on nature, place, and caste in an Indian city, by Shailja Paik. One of my deepest grouses with natural history writing is how it is often apolitical. Important pieces like Paik's break and re-build perspective.

Had first heard of Upamanyu Bhattacharya & Kalp Sanghvi's Wade in 2019. Finally caught up with it today. A brilliant short film of an otherworldly quality on the horrors of climate change, set in a post apocalyptic Kolkata. #FilmSky

I couldn’t get over the adult cat size reference. Was chuckling over it in the evening and telling my spouse about this burrito you had. πŸ˜‚

I know not where this bakery is, but I get the sentiment. My husband and I feel the same way about cheap pineapple pastries anywhere in India. Forever sickly sweet and chemically in aftertaste, but also just. So. Perfect! 😍 The lone preserved cherry and one stewed pineapple piece on top seals it.

Hahahaha! Did you have to refrigerate it thrice before each sitting over several days. Or did you take mini breaks through a single day and carpe diem it.

There’s all kinds of stuff happening there. Over on the birdsite someone was once mentioning of how Polish people have been verrryyy interested in Indian cookbooks and some Indian Bookstores keep getting international orders of these. :D

I should have a picture somewhere in my camera roll, in which I am feeding a treat to a stray cat in my old neighbourhood in New Delhi, and a street dog is in the background with the most forlorn expression on his face because he knows he cannot join in. And he would be smacked for trying. :D

Been a bit distant from music recently cause I’ve been in no shape for a while to enjoy things. But I heard this beautiful version of Badayuni’s Jo Main jaanti a few days ago, and I’m glad there’s music in this world. A balm to carry you through any trial. #MusicSky

thank you for replying Madhav! alright! Good to know. I’ll also ask the airlines at the check in desk what it involves. Even if it’s just from check in at departures to baggage at arrivals, it’ll save me huge trauma.

Hello All! I have a question that I'd be glad for some guidance on. When you book wheelchair assistance with an airline due to medical reasons/disability, is it valid for the entire trip? That's Security-Border Control-Boarding Gate at Departures, to Border Control-Baggage-Cab Pick up at Arrivals?

Snow deepening over different days on a deck.

Five consecutive days of snow. No outdoor pictures because I injured myself on NYE so I’m mostly bed bound. πŸ₯² But I’ve heard it’s extremely pretty everywhere across NL!

You're in for a treat. :) I loved the first season. The second one can be a bit slow-ish. The writing is top notch, and captures the excitement of India's early space program and the surrounding politics+political atmosphere of hope+sovereignty. Jim Sarbh is incredible as Homi Bhabha.

Easily one of the finest shows out there on Indian OTT, but also one of the most criminally underrated ones. For the start of 2026, I found myself humming the intro theme of Rocket Boys, and simply had to re-share it. Composed by Achint Thakkar. #MusicSky

Esp in the face of totalitarianism, and the high VAW. We need memorials for south Asian women who served in the WW2 Aux Corps. Who were in freedom, agrarian, and anti-caste movements. Memorials and monuments for women who have lost lives to social and religious intolerance in Independent India. 3/3

No memorials for women who lost lives to social, religious intolerance; which can really help shed light, and change attitudes. Naturally, my mind jumped to Indian contexts as a way to relate. Similar memorials and monuments are such a high need of the hour for India too. 2/3

Was listening to a podcast on the history of witch hunts in Scotland, and the podcaster raised a brilliant point on how most monuments are to men slain in wars (state murder). But no monuments exist to women who also participated in WW 1,2 in many roles. 1/3

A curse on everyone with terrible spatial awareness or consideration who reaches the top or bottom of an escalator, and then calmly proceeds to open up their suitcase handle to start wheeling it. Meanwhile the people right behind are about to start tripping over or slamming into them.

There's a certain "pukaar" (call) around all highland songs. Or even a plaintive quality, even if the songs are celebratory. There's a reverb to notes, bolstered by the hills and mountains that the voice collides against in crisp, clear air. They'd not sound the same in plains, or in forests.
