Next Monday, we’ll have another seminar with members of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Rio Grande do Sul (MPRS) and public security and law enforcement agents at CEAF-MPRS. 🙏🏼

mine, Dr. Pablo Ortellado’s, the Institute for Advanced Studies at USP, and the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee’s.
Six years ago, when I spoke about all our gaps in this field, I never imagined we would be able to bridge one of them

And the closing session featured Senator Alessandro Vieira, in an incredible and thoughtful conversation about our challenges and gaps in this field.
Also present, as my guest, was the mother of Nicolly Pogere, the young girl who was murdered in July by a couple of teenagers also radicalized online.

Delegate Dr. Lisandra Colabuono, from the Digital Environment Operations Unit (NOAD) of the São Paulo Civil Police, and Judge Dr. Vanessa Cavallieri, from the Juvenile Court of Rio de Janeiro and the “Eu Te Vejo” Protocol, also took part.

I, together with Prosecutor Dr. Fábio Costa Pereira, coordinator of NUPVE, the Center for the Prevention of Extreme Violence of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Rio Grande do Sul, participated alongside the Federal Police’s Cyber Hate Crime Unit, represented by Delegate Dr. Pedro Melo.

After lunch, we continued with the panel that, for the first time, brought together all the institutions on the front lines: the Public Prosecutor’s Office (NUPVE-MPRS), URCOD–Federal Police, NOAD–Civil Police of São Paulo, and a Judge.

He opened the seminar.
Then came our academic panel with me, Dr. Telma Vinha, and researcher Ricardo Cabral Penteado, who presented both the fantastic project from his doctoral thesis, BRECHO, and data from our report mapping Brazilian neo-Nazi NSBM bands.

The 1st International Seminar on the Prevention and Combating of Violent Extremism and Online Terrorism in 🇧🇷 was incredible.
A full day of learning and exchanging experiences with colleagues who, like me, work on the front lines.

Very much looking forward to giving the key note tomorrow at the University of Sao Paulo.
