games from last december not counting this year feels especially rough.

there are some old games that i would pick but they've changed the way eligibility works for remasters, etc. there are some joke picks, perhaps. a lot of games like bananza and TGM4 had like, One Good Song that wormed its way into my head, but thats about it.

some indie games had good sound design, but soundtracks? idk, not really anything that sticks out. air riders' ost feels fungible in the way all smash ost's do, and like mkw has a lot of old music. not even the new inti creates game had music worth writing home about.

mulling over backloggd goty, i don't think many games had particularly great soundtracks this year. i am spiritually opposed to putting down mario kart world because A: those are not new songs and B: those versions of those songs are often not as interesting as the originals.

im kinda surprised everyone credited for music on metroid prime 3 is just someone who had been at nintendo for over a decade at that point. that game specifically has this sort of bizarre star wars-ey sound. like you could have easily convinced me they got the rogue squadron composer or something.

the open world map seems really comparable to wind waker in the specific sense that interacting with most of the interesting stuff will require upgrades that you won't have at first.

weirdest thing about the dialogue is how Samus' silence is handled, 3 felt like it was a little better about being written either from a HL2 sort of perspective, or that Samus saying things was implied from pressing an interact button, etc. in 4 it really just feels like people are talking at her.

myles is annoying but you quickly end up in a place where "oh no theres too much interference i cant talk to you 😞", i feel confident saying there is less dialogue than MP3's opening hours, even if it is generally worse.

MP4 so far:
the environment art is incredible, i think this is one of the best looking FPS ever made.
you can't use the gamecube style controls, there are two jump buttons but you have to double tap jump to dodge, the first thing the game asks is if you want "dual stick fusion" or "pointer fusion".

like i think its kinda wild the point i bring up in this video about how recore handles shooting and dodging and that MP4 actually makes it more cumbersome than the original trilogy, while also having multiple buttons assigned to the same action anyway???

i genuinely do kinda think though that its funny that complaints about MP4 that i have, see others voicing, or could easily imagine, are things that this game nobody liked at the time kinda had answers for.

Metroid Prime 4 having a 4K60 quality mode and 1080p120 performance mode is really funny because it means that even though PS5 and XSX are more powerful and "should" have "better" looking games, MP4 is the literal very first console game this generation where I would pick quality mode.
