In 1992, Charles “Sonny” Burton was sentenced to death for a shooting he did not commit. He didn’t pull the trigger. He didn’t order it. He wasn’t even there.

The shooter was resentenced to life.

As we prepare to welcome this blessed month, we’re reminded of the power of reflection, community, and renewed commitment to justice. May this Ramadan bring spiritual growth, strength, and continued dedication to serving and uplifting our communities.

“And before this (Quran) the Book of Moses was (revealed as) a guide and mercy. And this Book is a confirmation, in the Arabic tongue, to warn those who do wrong, and as good news to those who do good.” The Noble Quran, 46:12

The withdrawal of agents does not undo the damage. Families remain separated. Communities remain traumatized. Trust in institutions has been shaken. And today’s rhetoric from federal leadership signals that similar operations could continue elsewhere.
