You misunderstand me. I agree with what you say; that's brilliantly focused. It was the drone campaign itself that I objected to. Not militarily, but politically. It was a direct violation of sovereignty, and as likely to have bad consequences as will Trump's war on Iran.

Obama lost my vote in 2012 because of the drone war, I thought it ill-advised, but widespread killing of innocents didn't happen.

Also, we seem to be assuming that the OP is talking about rifles. In the context of killings in the USA (which is automatically the context of any such discussion), it would seem much more useful to discuss handguns, as they're used in the huge majority of killings.

Hunting wild pigs is about the only reasonable use for a semi-auto hunting rifle that I can think of, and I wouldn't want to try it without one. Trapping works, but people do hunt for sport. If you want to prohibit sport hunting, that's a different argument.
