I don’t like living in a country where violence and death are normalized, but it didn’t start today. It built to this point over a long time. Gabby Giffords in 2011, Sandy Hook in 2012, Kyle Rittenhouse, Jan. 6, it’s all the same thing. Melissa Hortman and John Hoffman were killed THREE MONTHS AGO.

To be clear for those of you chomping for the American Years of Lead, this greatly increases your personal chances of dying in random political violence.
It will not be a heroic, meaningful death.
It will be meaningless, forgotten, and fade into the background noise of a society in free fall.

United States moves to restrict visa length for foreign students, reporters
Trump administration has proposed restricting student visas to a four-year period rather than the duration of programme.
Journalists, it seems to be flying under the radar that Trump wants to limit I (journalist) visas to U.S. to 240 days and 90 days for Chinese journalists. Don’t let it!

YouTube’s Deal With the Devil
Google once declared OAN too toxic for its platform—now Sundar Pichai and Neal Mohan are breathing new life into the conspiracy network as they negotiate a high-stakes agreement with Rupert Murdoch's ...
Back in 2020, YouTube suspended OAN's channel, demonetized it, and noted it was not an "authoritative" source.
Now, five years later, the Google-owned platform has inked a deal to put the MAGA propaganda network in millions of living rooms.

A progressive Democrat flipped a staunchly Republican seat in *Iowa*— won it by 10 points, in fact— by running *As A Progressive* focusing on issues of education, and making housing, child care, and health care affordable.
Stop running to the right. Stay left, and fight.

Let's be generous, here, and assume that by the solar system Altman wants to put the sphere outside the orbit of Neptune, and we'll just exclude the kuiper belt entirely.
That would be a sphere with a diameter of 6 billion miles.
Let's assume that it has the thickness of an eggshell: .3mm thick.

That is not her choosing to remain in protest — that is the state limiting her freedom of movement until she does so. I think we should be clear and frank about what this is.

I understand why you might think this is quibbling over terminology, but framing here is very important. They are trying to force a black woman - a representative- in Texas to agree to being placed under what is essentially police custody. That is forcing her to take an action under coercion.

Whenever I see the American discussion of healthcare reform it's always the status quo vs the British or Canadian system. There are other systems in the world. Every other wealthy country has achieved universal coverage, often without a single-payer system. A hybrid model would make sense for us.

Trans people are gonna keep being born, and at least some of our current trans folks need to survive in order to be there for future generations to learn from. We need some of us to survive so we don't have to start from scratch when the dust settles.
