You may remember me as the guy who relentlessly trolled Larry Hogan and Chatty Kathy Szeliga on Elon's hellsite.

Legacy media is failing democracy. Rather than just complain, I did something about. Six years ago I started Democracy Docket from scratch. Now it has more than 400,000 subscribers. But to help protect democracy, it needs to grow and scale. Subscribing now. bit.ly/4qmEiFz

One of my friends who ran an autograph show in Pennsylvania would pay Mackey to sign autographs for two hours. While many ex-players wanted to be paid in cash, under the table, his wife told my friend to write a check because he was to lose money or be taken advantage of by terrible people.

Also, Mackey's brain was ravaged by CTE. He was once tackled and handcuffed by TSA personnel at an airport security checkpoint because his Super Bowl ring tripped the metal detector, and he refused to turn over his ring while charging through- while his wife was pleading for them to go easy on him.

I once read a story about Mike Ditka having been surprised that he was the first tight end to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall Of Fame because he thought John Mackey was more deserving- and then calling out the sportswriters who snubbed Mackey because of his involvement in work stoppages.

Another great, albeit depressing, episode, Jeff. I know there are so many tragic stories about former NFL players and their suffering, but I think one player who deserves more attention is former Baltimore Colts TE John Mackey- who, like Easley, was blacklisted for his leadership in the NFLPA.

In addition to being a legendary Hall Of Fame quarterback, Sonny Jurgensen was one hell of a storyteller. Here's my favorite one- as told by Sonny to @mikewiseguy.bsky.social of The Washington Post in 2007.

Yeah, fuck George Allen and his nepo baby kids, but the stories about Sonny and Billy getting in trouble were hilarious. Like when Sonny got pulled over for DUI and told the cop to look at the guy in the back seat (a passed out Billy Kilmer) and tell him who'd he rather have driving the car.

Sonny Jurgensen has departed, and with him, a huge burgundy chunk of my childhood.

A favorite story: Late in his career, when pulled off the bench to run a 2-minute drill and pass to a game-winning TD, Jurgy told his huddle: "My only question is what're we gonna do with the extra forty seconds."

Alex Pretti was a colleague at the VA. We hired him to recruit for our trial. He became an ICU nurse- I lover working with him. He was a good kind person who lived to help and these fuckers executed him.

Stand By Me is easily my favorite Rob Reiner movie, and I can't watch this scene of @wilwheaton.net's Gordie LaChance breaking down without crying- as I had a similar relationship with my father. I just wish that I had a Chris Chambers in my life then. #RIPRobReiner www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCkO...

If there was a poll about the shutdown that was like "60% of voters blame Democrats" we'd get wall to wall news "analysis" saying the Democrats must immediately capitulate or face electoral ruin, but when we have the opposite (like we do now) the media doubles down on efforts to blame Democrats

Our politics seems to be entering a phase of "right supremacy" where only the lives of right-wingers have value. Assassinating the leader of a state legislative body in her own damn home was business as usual, but all of America has to have a reckoning if it's a far-right online influencer.

I just learned who Charlie Kirk is. Here's why I think his murder was much different than the murder of Melissa Hortman, the attack on Paul Pelosi, or the pipe bomb that was sent to the synagogue in Pittsburgh....(1/14)

It's time to start talking as seriously about splitting Pennsylvania up as people do about statehood for DC and Puerto Rico.

I am going to get a full professorship at this center. I'm going to show Veggie Tales videos to a bunch of 19-year-olds who brought briefcases to class and ostentatiously cry for much of the running time. My salary will be paid by a grant from the Vlad Dracul Youth Education Initiative.
