Feeling Well, Functioning Well: How Psychological Well-Being Predicts Later Self-Control, but Not the Other Way Around - Shuna Shiann Khoo, Lile Jia, Ismaharif Ismail, Ying Li, Liangyu Xing, Jolynn Pe... Although self-control is commonly believed to contribute to greater well-being, current evidence is inconclusive due to methodological and statistical issues. I...

Rather than intervening to directly improve self-control, our findings, situated in the US and Singapore context, suggest building social-emotional capacity as an underappreciated way to developing self-control. (3/3)

While self-control is assumed to contribute to well-being, our longitudinal models argue the opposite. Well-being predicts later self-control, but not the reverse. The findings highlight how cross-sectional designs and analyses are inadequate in supporting the direction of effects. (2/3)

There is no shortage of interventions to address self-control in education or employee performance. Yet, they rarely address the core problem of whether individuals have the capacity to exert self-control (e.g., poor financial well-being; challenging life events). (1/3)

In our Special Issue paper, we adopted a multidimensional lens of social identity to examine the bidirectional link between media use and identity among Muslim adolescents. We found stronger within-person effects for media-to-identity, rather than identity-to-media, pathways. #commsky

In a preregistered longitudinal study, we found national commitment to be a crucial dimension of identity to initiate cooperation among voters following election loss. Optimism served as a “hub” across multiple national identity dimensions to facilitate cooperative inclinations. #socialpsychology
