While there are legitimate uses of AI for research purposes, it wasn’t developed for that purpose. It was developed to replace humans in the workforce to increase profits for the already obscenely wealthy. Just as computers and robotics were. AI slop and AI generated misinformation is a … bonus

Very much like the internet and social media companies, social media can be good but depending on who controls the platform it can be bad

Focus on differentiating between the "theft and murder" generative "AI" being rammed down our throats by billionaires while they destroy the planet, and the "actually useful" AI that supports science.

Make clear the LLM's, image theft, and brain drainers *ARE* bad and you'll get less backlash.

I agree with what you have put forth.
I am all in for scientifically-assisted AI.
Yet, we must be careful about letting AI expand to every level of life.
We should narrow its scope of intervention, because there are already shifts in its use, like deep-fake videos/pictures, job losses etc. ...

radio and tv were so powerful the FCC had to regulate it. too bad same thing doesnt apply to social media or llm companies.

That's because people are conflating generative AI (large language models and image generators) and machine learning AI. The latter is powerful and useful, and importantly doesn't involve stealing intellectual property or giant data centers. Generative AI provides little value at horrendous cost.
