My first gig of '26. Damon & Naomi at Café Oto, night 1, a positive antidote to the horrible news cycle at the moment. Laetitia Sadier's solo set was great; trombone! interpretative dance! After D&N's lovely set Laetitia and surprise guest Mark Webber from Pulp joined them for 3 Galaxie 500 tunes.

Great to see LA's Monde UFO at the Shacklewell Arms. Their euphoria at playing the first date of their tour added to the effects of jet lag made for an exciting, haphazard set. Their jazzy, bossanova tinged psychedelic tunes suited the red glow. Pink Shabab played some serious bass in support.

I went one stop further than usual as it would be easier to get a taxi. That station had a book exchange near the door and while I waited I had a quick look - recipe books, study guides and this; Charlotte Grieg’s Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow from 1989. Find her on wikipedia, she was fascinating.

An uncanny coincidence. It was after midnight and I was on the last train, listening yet again to the Tubs great new album Cotton Crown, the cover art of which shows a mother breastfeeding a baby. The mother is the late music writer and musician Charlotte Grieg and her son is Owen from the band.

Spotted last night supporting The Tubs, Expiry, the new band fronted by Louis Forster, formerly of the Goon Sax. I last saw him accompanying his Dad Robert Forster a couple of years ago

A joy to witness the fresh line-up of The Tubs last night in a full-to-bursting Oslo in Hackney. They played most of their excellent 2 albums and added Lana McArdle for a couple of tunes too.

St Pancras Old Church provided the ideal surroundings to experience a powerful set from the Welsh language goth/ psych-folk trio Tristwch Y Fenywod. Modified dual zither plus bass and electronic drums equals power trio from now on, ok?
