I’ve voted twice to make independent redistricting the law of the land nationwide, and I would gladly do so again.

But I also live in the real world.

When Massachusetts passed a "millionaires tax" in 2023, conservatives claimed the rich would flee.

But two years later, they haven't — and MA has collected $5.7B for infrastructure and public education.

A reminder that positive change can still happen at the state level.

The thing I can't understand is how DJT learned that in April 1945 Hitler shot himself in the head to evade execution while Mussolini's dead body was hung upside down in a town square & mutilated by his own people ... & then said to himself: you know, I think fascism has a happy ending for me.

A message of encouragement from @aoc.bsky.social from those feeling despair (as Musk tramples the 🇺🇸 government): “We outnumber them — authoritarians are like the Wizard of Oz, they rely on their PERCEIVED power, not their actual power. You can resist.

So it's dangerous for China to have the ability to access our data and manipulate us via social media apps.

But it's okay for America's billionaires to have the ability to access our data and manipulate us via social media apps.

Do I have this right?

A graphic from Courier Newsroom with text reading, "The richest person on Earth will have an office inside the Trump White House, all while maintaining his ownership and direction of companies with billions of dollars in federal contracts." Below the text, Elon Musk sits on a chair between two flags, one American and the other representing a government seal, against a dark, smoky background.

In Praise of California It has its flaws — what place doesn’t? — but it plays a big role in America’s greatness

"California paid in a lot more [to the federal government] than it got back — $83 billion in total. So did Washington state and much of the Northeast. Most red states were in the reverse position, getting much more from DC than they paid in return."

Behind the scenes, the company was also quietly dismantling a system to prevent the spread of misinformation. When the company announced on Jan. 7 that it would end its fact-checking partnerships, the company also instructed teams responsible for ranking content in the company’s apps to stop penalizing misinformation, according to sources and an internal document obtained by Platformer.

The result is that the sort of viral hoaxes that ran roughshod over the platform during the 2016 US presidential election — “Pope Francis endorses Trump,” Pizzagate, and all the rest — are now just as eligible for free amplification on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads as true stories.
