Well that definitely takes the prize for the craziest thing to ever happen to me in a Chipotle.

(Feel free to use that as a writing prompt; I just needed to mark the moment for posterity.)

Favorite Troughton stories: "The Power of the Daleks," "The Underwater Menace," "The Evil of the Daleks," "The Abominable Snowmen," "The Enemy of the World," "The Web of Fear," "Fury From the Deep," "The Mind Robber," "The Seeds of Death," and "The War Games."

It's hard to rank Classic Who from childhood memory, but based on this run through the first two Doctors, favorite serials for Hartnell were "The Aztecs," "The Sensorites," "The Dalek Invasion of Earth," "The Romans," "The Web Planet," "The Celestial Toymaker," and "The War Machines."

To my shame, I've seen effectively ZERO Tom Baker! When I found the show, it was my local PBS affiliate airing re-runs and they were mid-Fifth Doctor. He's still a sentimental favorite, although Troughton really vaulted himself into the top tier for me. So much essential Doctor-ness sprouts from him

My intention was to hit pause on the classic era here and return to modern "Who" where I left it early in Jodie Whittaker's tenure. But honestly, I'm having too much fun.

Bring on Jon Pertwee, UNIT, and the Whomobile!

That's the end of "The War Games." Meaning the end of Series 6 of classic "Who," the end of the Second Doctor outside special guest appearances, black-and-white eps, lost/reconstructed stories, and 40+ episode seasons. And we have an entirely new understanding of the Doctor and what drives them.

When I'm chatting with audience members after a show and a lull hits, I'll often ask how they found out about it. A guy at our brewery venue tonight: "I was in the bathroom and saw the flier on the wall while I was peeing."

Honestly probably how they found out about shows in Shakespeare's time too.

Still have three eps left but it's shaping up to be an S-Tier story for me.

"Now, Kate, I am a husband for your turn,
For by this light, whereby I see they beauty,
Thy beauty that doth make me like thee well,
Thou must be married to no man but me."

Tonight - one of the most challenging Shakespeare roles I've ever attempted, Petruchio in "Taming of the Shrew." Wish me luck!

I reference "First Cow" all the time; a singular piece of Western revisionism and an aching fable of two misfits who steal a brief spell of kinship and rebellion on a harsh and exploitative frontier. It's a key touchstone in the pitch deck for a film I want to make someday. What a great series idea.

Hey folks, I often do posts calling for indie developers to link me their games so I can signal boost them. Today I want to do something similar for all trans creatives.

If you are a trans game dev, artist, writer, streamer or YouTuber, reply here with a link to your work. Only one rule: no GenAI.๐Ÿ’œ

"Mime Lords" was the rejected alternative name for the Weeping Angels, I heard.

Also, honestly incredible that we're *250* episodes into "Doctor Who" and only JUST learning anything about the Doctor's origins. Despite occasional vague hints, for six seasons he's just been this weirdo with a time machine who knows a lot about a lot and lets fate choose his next destination.

The production value of this, by 60's "Who" standards, is absolutely epic, between the location work, multiple eras of military action, and the scifi set design popping off. Had to be careful which still image I used, though, given the...unfortunate makeup choices for the War Chief.

Six eps into Doctor Who's "The War Games." After a ripping, action-packed first five that exceptionally arranged a progression of mind-blowing reveals, this chapter felt a little more padded. One SLIGHTLY important detail: the first-ever use of the words "Time Lords." Probably going to matter later.

Holy hell, you too? Someone used the Contact Form on my professional website to tell me I should condemn Wicked to my followers because of that A.I. photo thing on the website. Like bruh I don't work for you.

Something's afoot.

Nobody deserves that. It's awful that this is landing on you. The Internet is optimized for activating rage-gangs and it's so sad how it squashes any hope of a nuanced conversation where people share how something impacted them individually and we have a chance to learn from it.

I've booked gigs that way but it's a long game. A brief, professional intro & reel may be ignored/deleted; but if it's good quality maybe they put it on file for when they have a casting call that needs a lot of your type. It can be a year+ before that happens, though. Patience. Fire and forget.

This was my happiest revelation at my first con as a signing guest, where I could spend long stretches just observing foot traffic; really understanding how liberating and joyful it was for so many people to have a space where they could make their outsides communicate something about their insides.

What am I watching next, though? โ€œPrince of Darkness.โ€ I love how John Carpenter considers 99-ish minutes as an ideal movie length, with at least 3 devoted to him wailing on synths. Movies can be all sorts of things, if you open yourself up to them.

On some days, I just want to put on a โ€œGodzillaโ€ movie and nerd out. But Iโ€™m a film lover through and through, and I celebrate that thereโ€™s so much more you can do with this art form; like make this radical statement about the worthiness of an ordinary womanโ€™s pressures as a movie subject.

Has she made peace in the perfection of her routines or is there something else going on? I wonโ€™t steal your experience of observation; but for myself, when we reach the third day and she inadvertently leaves her housecoat partially unbuttoned, I had an ominous feeling about what lay ahead.

Which is what Ackerman communicates so well - societyโ€™s expectations for Jeanne have left no room for Jeanne. The camerawork by Babette Mangolte often divides the cinematic frame, using doorways, hallways and walls to literally shrink the space we watch her in. Her life is a series of small cages.

What the film achieves is to outlast your restless expectations, your desire for loud action and conflict. Conflict is there; but only if you look closer, meditate on what the film presents. Jeanne masks herself so carefully, so polite and proper as to be bordering invisible. But truths leak through

She does everything with impeccable, passionless correctness. Akerman films her without flourish, locking the camera down for long takes observing simple acts. Two minutes of wiping down silverware. Three minutes of massaging ground beef. Like I said - Iโ€™m not going to recommend this to everyone.

Dielman is a widow raising a teenage son. Every day is mending/folding clothes, preparing meals, sending letters. Every action performed as it has been hundreds of times. She takes clients for sex work, which she seems to think no more about than as a way to make pocket money while the potatoes boil
