Above all, the ability to spin a storyline. The best commentators could make me genuinely interested in watching a set between any two teams, regardless of skill or my prior knowledge of the teams, through communicating a compelling story

This is why I love HD-2D games. One of the best examples of games being truly beautiful without being hyper-realistic.

It’s easy to sell a viewer on watching a top level tournament, but it’s a completely different thing to convince a viewer to watch less skilled players by commentating them with storylines, details, and a greater sense of respect usually reserved for top level. Nobody is better at this than Popgun.

Popgun’s style and sense of humor is just so unique imo. I specifically look forward to tuning into LI Day 2 every month just to see him commentate (also helps that he’s prob more knowledgeable about low level than most others, feels like I truly learn about the teams I’m watching for LI with him)
