Our settler diaspora in these places some of the worst at materially accepting their own status as setter colonisers. Just performative statements about recognising the land they live on, and trying to force solidarity with those they occupy using identities like "people of the global majority" 💀

A couple of years ago, I wrote a 14-step guide to affective digital and in person campaigning. I also occasionally give free consulting to people/orgs who want to have more visible campaigns. It probably needs updating, but hit me up anytime if you want me to email it or give advice.

Show that the support for that measure is there

And cis people, even if you don't currently have (or don't think you have) trans employees, also start having those conversations at work. Get your women's networks on side, reach out to the LGBTQ+ network leads to show support, ask your HR to instigate gender neutral bathrooms as standard

Signage on gender neutral bathrooms can make it clear if those bathrooms contain stalls, or stalls and urinals. And how many men do you think are actually going to choose to use the bathrooms without urinals when both sets of bathrooms are near to each other or a similar distance from their desk?

Every colleague that has ever had a conversation with you in the bathrooms is comfortable with your presence there

Make them consider that, if there are TERFs at your place of work, perhaps they should be the ones inconveniencing themselves by crossing the building to use other toilets. Gender neutral toilets in themselves won't inconvenience the TERFs as they can still use them if they choose

Point out the impracticalities that would come with forcing you to cross the building to use gender neutral toilets that aren't conveniently located near your desk/area. Are they going to have mandatory ten-minute gaps between all meetings to allow time for bathroom breaks?

Organise, ask for help. If possible, if it doesn't already exist, build a network of allies. A lot of people don't really know what's going on. Colleagues with whom you're on friendly terms are going to look at how this impacts you, not panic about some non-existent threat, and think this is wrong

Make sure that your employers know that whether or not you're cis or trans is privileged and confidential information that they're not permitted to share, that your colleagues have no right to share, and that even stating that they have trans employees could be sufficient to effectively out you
