If they could solve assholes then we would have been catapulted in an utopia. But no, they don't solve, they are management tools. Which means I agree that we shouldn't fetishize them, but that I understand the focus they get in the US of A, at least considering what I see of them from outside.

As I understand it there is a wider culture of play involving playing with strangers, and in a society with embedded entitlement and businesses-poisoned, it helps to have external contracts to point to to handle unknown assholes.
