seattle - CM rivera's amendment 102 is a poison pill that does not protect tree canopy, and will curtail housing in wealth neighborhoods

this will push more development into areas that don't have trees - increasing exposure to heat islands

California Rolls Back Its Landmark Environmental Law

Montana's Housing Miracle Strikes Twice | Sightline Institute Bipartisan efforts won a string of bills for more homes, lower costs, and less red tape for Montanansβ€”with lessons for other states.

Montana just passed a bipartisan housing overhaul. No more costly parking mandates for small homes, a greenlight for six-story single-stair apartment buildings in all commercial areas, and fairer rules for manufactured homes and ADUs.

More choices, less red tape, lower costs. Let’s go!

This amendment is up for a vote TOMORROW, and it's likely to be very close.

If you care about ST3, consider giving public comment either in person or by calling in, or emailing council@seattle.gov asking to reject any amendment from CM Rivera adding additional requirements to light rail permits.

Building housing in cities prevents sprawl, protects forests & farmland. Seattle's own study determined construction of SF homes to be the biggest threat to tree retention. Instead of weakening urban housing capacity, we shouldΒ embrace the opportunity to create livable, walkableΒ communities. (3/3)

Cities have the authority to regulate setbacks, lot size, etc. They also must make it 'feasible' to construct home types required by law and larger setbacks inhibit construction of middle housing. And, we can have both abundant housing and a healthy environment including urban trees!(2/3)

Agreed and just conveyed as much to my Congressional Rep. last week. The state invested heavily in affordable housing via the housing trust fund this year & more is needed. Localities can also pass housing measures to fund affordable housing.

Only charging new residents implies that these utilities are not a common public good. We want functioning sewer systems and it’s in everyone’s best interest.
