Remember this when you see scare headlines about the high rate of minors seeing βpornβ online: Theyβre either not seeing it on porn sites or what theyβre seeing isnβt actually porn.
It turns out minors not necessarily know what βpornβ even is.

The Online Safety Act has made going online even more dangerous. Google is now warning that as Britons turn to VPNs to avoid the act, there's been an explosion in scam VPNs that sell data or provide it to state actors.
Naturally, that would includes data on (and access to) minors.
As someone who has frequently defended free speech rights of sex workers and sex work advocates, it's completely unsurprising but nevertheless galling to be reminded once again how POWERFUL MEN talk fondly about sex work in private while demonizing it and pushing oppressive laws about it publicly.

Whenever I meet a "feminist" who wants to abolish sex work, I instantly know I'm talking with an unserious person who is not willing to do the work.
Let's imagine, for the sake of the argument, that they were right and all sex workers were trafficking victims who wanted to leave sex work. π§΅

Itβs not like they werenβt warned. When you make it difficult for adults to look at porn on actual porn sites, they start going to non-porn sites β social media, messaging apps β to look for it. Which creates and incentive for people to share it there.
Itβs a predictable cycle.
More kids are seeing porn now than before the Online Safety Act became law. Itβs literally having the opposite effect.
The major cause? X. The vast majority of minors saw porn, far outstripping actual porn sites.
So of course, the UK government wants to double down with more censorship.
