26.02.2026 05:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Very likely! Larvae have to do something to survive haha. We got a long way to go!
15.12.2025 19:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I actually don't know... I do know that they could use the balance as an act of buoyancy, which could help with feeding. I think Ericas paper also mentions using it for allowing better movement of the arm crown for feeding. Maybe allowing it to stay more positioned for feeding purposes?
15.12.2025 19:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0But the neck is very important (or presumably so), we believe it helps them maintain balance in the ocean, we donβt really have any other theories, but as they age the neck gets sucked up into the mantle and then it becomes this little stubby thing with a head at the end haha.
15.12.2025 18:45 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Baby brachios are so weird and adorable!! Despite the babies being more common than adults, we know next to NOTHING about the paralarvae! Vidal and Shea I think is the only publication that sorta details a baby brachio.

The words say bad art for good an art + community event and the possum is saying βmake the world better with art!β And free beer snacks and art supplies, and Indy hall November 10th 6:30
We're getting together in Philly to create art. Why? For community & GOOD.
I'll provide all the art supplies you'll need & a little inspiration on what you can create art about.
We hope to create art that inspires action. Art is great at that, even if you think you're bad at it

βSorry I am unavailable to send photos of my enlarged proximal suckersβ
;)
It is very possible! The squid dick is still inside the mantle but this random arm modification could actually have a very similar method (God I hope not), depending on the females proximal suckers.
This is also a very rare squid so it could be awhile til we see one on video.
A doodle in Sarahβs notebook of a long necked squid that is thinking to itself βmy dick remains a mysteryβ
I love science. Iβm having so much fun.

Absolutely excited to announce that my first scientific paper has officially been published! You can officially check it out from my ResearchGate page :D. Enjoy! (sorry it's on worms and not my usual squids :( it's still good ole invertebrates though!!!)

27.06.2025 05:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Thatβs probably better for the better @autsquidsquad.bsky.social , I actually have not yet touched a colossal squid! Hopefully soon!! But my assumption is they harden up just a little bit.
27.06.2025 03:28 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This photograph captures Sir David Attenborough seated outdoors on the rugged terrain of Skomer Island. Behind him, the ocean and coastal cliffs form a scenic backdrop under a clear sky. Sir David, dressed in a khaki jacket and light trousers, looks towards the camera with a gentle expression, exuding a sense of warmth, calm, and wisdom. Around him, puffins can be seen flying and perched on the rocky ground, illuminated in rays of golden sunlight as the sun sets behind the cliffs.
Happy 99th birthday to the man who gave voice to the wild. π
Sir David Attenborough, thank you for a lifetime dedicated to the natural world, and for sharing its story with wisdom, wonder, and grace.
You've inspired generations to fall in love with nature.

22.04.2025 01:06 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Footage and collecting of this genus is very scarce. So any bit of geographic data can be very informative. Thereβs estimations of 3-4 undescribed species of Sandalops.

- 1 man crossing a long cross walk
- 1 single person in a car
all honk for squid.

Science IRL decisions went out today!
We were able to fund 13 of the 77 proposals that were submitted. They are communicating science in stage productions, boxes at bus stations, interactive frog statues, musical performances, farmers market tables, backs of cars, knitting clubs, and much more.
Woo!!
