A while back I saw a blog post from someone poking around in his Tesla's ethernet and he got warning letter telling him that continuing to connect to the network would void his warranty etc
Sorry I don't recall details, just saying "watch out for tamper detection" when you're in there.

Aesthetically, these are exactly the vibe I'm looking for. Reminds me of Grandma's house. And after getting them home I realized that this is literally something my grandfather would have had - there were lots of trinkets around from his time at Standard Oil.

One time my friend was posting about his conversation with a sad old man at the laundromat and someone replied "hey man, are you ok? Did you get stuck in a Tom Waits song?"

I get this with audiobooks I listened to on long walks. One book in the park, chapter of a completely different book a few blocks over.

First person games definitely give me a sense of place that other art doesn't. If I replayed the first Marathon game rn it would feel like walking through a building I visited in high school.

I've seen someone on this site say "just don't ask a rationalist where they were on Jan 6th" so I think the echo chamber has gone from thinking "bay area nerds are all right wing" to "bay area nerds are basically the same as fervent Trump supporters"

My roommate and I watched the first episode of Homicide last night and I searched my posts just now to see if I'd talked about that show before. I had totally forgotten about this and assumed Braugher was still alive. Damn.

I get offended when the cat climbs into my lap and then starts bathing himself. I thought we were going to hang out, that is something you should be doing on your own time.

Every time I empty a bottle I toss the bottle cap to the cat. He bats it around for a while until it gets stuck under the refrigerator or the stove. Eventually that space will be so densely packed with bottle caps that pushing one in will knock another one out.

By the 90s, photo labs were doing some digital color correction when printing from negatives and in a home darkroom you can tweak both development and printing. But for most consumer photographs the development process was tuned to be as neutral as possible.

I would argue that for most old color photographs, the differences are entirely attributable to how information is captured. Most color film is designed to be developed using the standardized C-41 process so that film from different manufacturers can be developed on the same machine at the same time

I don't understand the distinction between color grading and film chemistry. Are you making a distinction between color distortions that happen when developing/printing vs when capturing the image?

I think the reflected image of the car didn't move very far in the mirror compared to how far the bicyclist moved in the main image.

Up until today, the cat ignored most indications that he should get off the kitchen counter but would sprint out of the room as soon as he saw me pick up the spray bottle.
Today he laid down and looked directly at me while I repeatedly sprayed him to no effect. He is winning the battle of wills.

The time has never been better for a Blindsight adaptation. People so badly wanted Pluribus to be metaphorically about AI... they'd absolutely love a story where the scary alien is a stochastic parrot.
