Made good progress on Vax patterning today!

Grey always read so differently depending on lighting but I’m very pleased with how close my Galadriel cape wool is to the og! The dye came out beautifully and the weave reads quite similar!

This doesn’t look like much but it is me finally figuring out how the drape and grainlines of this cape work, me terrified that I don’t have enough of my (custom dyed) fabric, and me discovering that I will just barely be able to squeak this cape out of my four yards of wool. Phew!

I finally had the stamina to tackle draping this cape pattern again, which is VERY fiddly and depends very much on where the grain of the fabric lands. Still gotta do the back pieces but at least the pleating is finally where it needs to be!

I dyed my wool for the cape! This is a gorgeous gauze weave wool that I got for a hell of a steal, knowing I could dye it the right grey! Took a lot of tests because grey is SO hard to get right and looks different in every light, but I’m so happy with the end result and how close it looks to the OG

Bracers almost done! I just need to make the connecting panel/closer that goes on the underside of the arm.

Painting all the silver into these etched lines! I’m using a teeeeny tiny mini painting brush and testors enamel silver paint.

Bracer pieces etched for reals! I’m glad I practised because I definitely got my lines smoother this time!

I decided to do a test run to make sure I got my technique down! I ended up doing a graphite rubbing to transfer the design to the suede, then etched with a woodburning pen (stinky!) I did a quick dye pass on the leather, then painted in the silver lines.

After a Galadriel hiatus we are back! Bracers started: I had to trace multiple screenshots and combine them to get my etching pattern, but I think I got pretty close! Printed out and ready to transfer to leather!

As much of the world bends towards machine-made slop designed to keep you scrolling so they can serve you ads, there is something very healing about going outside, wearing a costume that I made with my own hands, and working together with an artist like @worldofgwendana.bsky.social to tell a story.

Making pants that fit is such a high, I feel unstoppable! Especially with all the fancy piecing I added! #vaxildan #vaxcosplay #cosplay

Galadriel cosplay details!

I am forever in awe of embroiderer Michele Carragher’s work, and to see her pieces in The Rings of Power was a delight! This embroidery is especially delicate, with most beads only 1mm in diameter, and it was definitely a challenge to recreate!

Mmm tasty seam matching

Working on pants for Vax! I got this amazing stretch embossed denim at a local fabric shop (thanks Swanson’s Fabrics!) and took the base pattern off of some stretch pants that I love! And then added all the fancy piecing of course 😜

Happy Halloween from my favourite hobbit!! I’ve always wanted to cosplay Frodo so this year I threw together a look with things from my costume stock at work (and borrowed the ring and brooch and sword)

It’s weird being a hobbit instead of an Elf but lbr, Frodo is the most elvish of the hobbits 😜

Halloween at work is a chance for me to have fun pulling something together via my own closet and the costume stock I have access to! I don’t stress about accuracy and just try to make something recognisable These were two I did in prior years: The Dread Pirate Roberts, and Miss Phryne Fisher!
