even most of the non-canon stuff I do, I try to follow most of the rules of game canon (as in, things that have been done before to some extent in the lore), as it's more fun for me to build off of existing canon and bend it as far as I can without breaking it. very fun writing exercise

tbh with how many times I've written something into Sydney's lore and then the ingame story goes and does something almost exactly the same, I haven't needed to break as much lore as I figured I would LMAO

I tend to stay fairly canon-adjacent, but I do tweak things to fit my own narrative as needed
