The OP is right about hearing/feeling the voices of past residents and builders when renovating an historic building. But whenever you say “what were they thinking?”, there’s a feeling that some old carpenter’s ghosts are nodding thier heads in agreement .

And one of those voices will be a stonemason cussing out the homeowner for changing the design mid-project, the same voice heard for centuries on every building site. There are some things we can depend on, after all.

I produced the play “Peter Pan” while in LA. We stuck to the original score except for a couple spots: for the scene-change into Wendy’s house we used “Wouldn’t It be Nice” whose lyrics are exactly what the following scene is about. The LA audience of course knew the song & started SINGING ALONG!😊

Two books: Catalog for John Waters POPE OF TRASH exhibit at the Academy Museum in Hollywood. On the over, Waters is wearing a COMME DE GARCONS dinner jacket, made of pink bedcover cloth with pink pompoms. And SPENT, the latest of Alison Bechdel’s graphic novels. The cover image is Bechdel and her wife Holly drawn as the lesbian version of “American Gothic”. As always, Ms. Bechdel’s book is the one you you really do HAVE to read.

My Big Gay Books: POPE OF TRASH, the catalog from the John Waters exhibit at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, and SPENT, Alison Bechdel’s take on Marxist theory as viewed through the lens of goat farming in Vermont. Hilarious and true, I loved every page of both!

To clarify, the original article was about a minor kerfluffle over permits for an outdoor
music venue. But the sentiment pretty much defines what we are going through.

A quote from a NYTimes article that sums up our present situation: “I think there’s cultural conflict here: It’s between people who think you should work things out with your neighbors and follow the rules, and people who think they’re so powerful and so cool, they can just do whatever they want,”

Tomorrow there are demonstrations in both DC and Baltimore. I was fully planning to go, but have been in bed sick for the last week, and probably won’t be mobile tomorrow. Anybody who wasn’t planning on it, if you could go in my place, it would mean a lot to me.
