Thank you @inclusionlondon.bsky.social for spotting my questioning of the Mayor yesterday at budget plenary where I was checking that the interests of deaf and disabled Londoners are baked into the project to pedestrianise Oxford St in a meaningful way through co-production not just consultation.

REAL HOPE. REAL CHANGE.
LET THEM WORK
Green Party
Promoted by Chris Williams on behalf of The Green Party, both at PO Box 78066, London SE16 9GQ
People fleeing war and persecution are ready and able to contribute to our society.
The problem is... they're not allowed.
Rather than shipping them off to army barracks all over the country, it's time to let asylum seekers work.

This is a graphic compromised of a photo of disabled protestors against the proposed Welfare 'reforms' that would remove PIP from many claimaints. They are holding signs that say "Welfare not Warfare" and "Cuts Kill." There are various people holding these signs, many of them in wheelchairs. The left side of the graphic is a text box that reads: "The Green Party see the work that was done to get those protections enshrined back in 1995, and again in 2010 - and all those who fight against these senseless cuts every single day. Thank you." The Green Party Disability Logo is in the bottom right corner and our imprint is at the bottom.
We want to thank every single person who has spoken up, gone out to protest, and made a difference for us all. It's a brutal fight, but it's one we have to win.

This is a graphic compromised of a photo of disabled protestors against the Labour proposals to cut PIP and UC. They are holding signs that say "They say cut back we say fight back" and "No Cuts to Pip." There is a person with long pink hair and a black face mask in the centre. The left side of the graphic is a text box that reads: "Labour say they want to get disabled people 'back into work' by cutting benefits that we use to work like PIP and Access to Work. Reform say we aren't worthy of support from the state," The Green Party Disability Logo is in the bottom right corner and our imprint is at the bottom.
We struggled through decades of austerity only to find Labour didn't care about us anymore - more interested in cutting the welfare budget and 'getting [us] back into work', while making it even harder to actually work as a disabled person.
Reform will be worse.

This is a graphic compromised of a photo of disabled protestors during the 1990's campaigns for protections for disabled people. There are several people in wheelchairs, and a person using crutches, in front of a bus. One of the wheelchair users is handcuffed to the bus. The left side of the graphic is a text box that reads: "Disabled activists today build on those incredible foundations they fought for. Without the Disability Discrimination Act, and now the Equality Act, even less of the country would be accessible to us." The Green Party Disability Logo is in the bottom right corner and our imprint is at the bottom.
Those protestors built us a foundation to continue the fight for liberation and inclusion of all disabled people. The protections they got for us all have saved countless lives - because exclusion from society isn't just difficult, it can be deadly.

This is a graphic compromised of a photo of Barbara Lisicki and Alan Holdsworth having handcuffed themselves to a bus. They are both wheelchair users. They are next to a person holding signs that read "Put the Bill Back on the Agenda", referring to the Disability Discrimination Bill that became the Act. The right side of the graphic is a text box that reads: "Thousands of protestors marched, and when they were ignored they protested in more direct ways - like Barbara Lisicki and Alan Holdsworth pictured here, having handcuffed themselves to a bus." The Green Party Disability Logo is in the bottom right corner and our imprint is at the bottom.
Taking cues from the suffragetes, incredible disabled activists handcuffed themselves to buses (alongside other direct action) to demand that disabled people get legal protections from discrimination.

This is a graphic compromised of a photo of disabled protestors against the ITV charity Telethons. They are holding signs that say "Charity No, Telethon must go" and "Piss On Pity." There are people standing in the foreground taking pictures. The right side of the graphic is a text box that reads: "It's been 30 years since the Disability Discrimination Act was passed. Now its protections form part of the Equality Act 2010, but it was a long hard fight to get those protections." The Green Party Disability Logo is in the bottom right corner and our imprint is at the bottom.
It's been 30 years since the Disability Discrimination Act was passed, and 15 since it was rolled into the Equality Act 2010.

There are many British commentators who have made several posts showing deep concern for Rachel Reeves over the last 24 hours but apparently lost their phones whilst hundreds of thousands of disabled people were terrified of losing the benefits they need to live.

This #DisabilityPrideMonth we are highlightling members who are disabled, and proud of who they are and what their differences mean to them.
First up we have Julie Grant, who discusses learning about her neurodivergencies as a parent.

Tomorrow MPs will vote on the govt's brutal UC & PIP cuts.
Let's be clear: slashing benefits won’t lift people into work—it will push more disabled people and unpaid carers to the brink. I won’t back a Bill that pushes vulnerable people deeper into poverty.

An image of a line of people standing facing away from the camera. They are all different and one person is in a wheelchair. Over this is a low-opacity version of the Disability Pride flag, the red, yellow, white, blue, green and black flag. The text on the image reads Happy Disability Pride Month! From the Green Party Disability Group
July is #DisabilityPrideMonth and we are standing proud even when both Labour and the Tories want to cut us down.
Stand tall this month, in spite of them.

A background image is of a number of people's legs (clothed) and a person in a wheelchair. A green rectangle contains the statement "cut billionaires not benefits".
It's absolutely unacceptable for Starmer and Kendall to come after disabled people, when a minor Wealth Tax would raise ten times the amount even they claim they'll save from these inhumane cuts.

A droopy rose with text: Did Exeter’s MP Steve Race join at least 120 Labour rebels in opposing cruel cuts to disability payments?
Clue: Some months ago he signed a letter to Liz Kendal, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, saying how much he supported the welfare reforms.
"People in #Exeter with disabilities have the right to live with dignity and respect. PIP payments are essential for many to live independently and to participate in work, education and society. Removing it will deepen hardship and cost more in the long run." - Cllr Carol Bennett
