Kudagitsune are native to mountain shaman traditions of Nagano Prefecture, but have spread throughout other mountainous regions of central and eastern Japan. In the wild, kudagitsune behave like other small mammals like foxes or weasels and avoid human contact. 🧵⬇️

Kudagitsune are used by sorcerers in divination rituals due to their great magical abilities; or curse their enemies (or their clients’ enemies), since they are a type of tsukimono: spirits able to haunt, possess and manipulate humans. 🧵⬇️

Due to their small size they can be conveniently hidden on the human body, inside sleeves, pockets or carried inside bamboo pipes. 🧵⬇️

Kudagitsune (管狐) are a low rank type of Kitsune. They are a breed of small, thin and long bodied foxes that oftenwise are found serving sorcerers and fortune tellers as magical familiars. 🧵

These yōkai cats are most likely seen walking around on their hind legs and speaking human languages, but they also have necromantic abilities that allow them to control corpses like puppet-masters and they use their powerful influence to blackmail or enslave humans.

New Yōkai alert! According to Japanese folklore, when a cat surpasses their natural lifespawn, they turn into yōkai, becoming a a Nekomata (猫又) (or a Bakeneko, but we’ll talk about those in the future!). When a cat becomes a nekomata, their tail split in two and they gain supernatural powers.

New Yokai sculpture alert!! In Japanese folklore, Kasa-Obake are old oiled-paper umbrellas that become alive when they reach a certain age, becoming a Tsukumogami. Not too dangerous, they enjoy surprising humans by sneaking up on them and delivering a large oily lick with their long tongues.

Kamaitachi (鎌鼬) are weasel yokai with sharp sickle claws from the mountainous regions of Yamanashi, Nagano, and Niigata. They ride the swirling whirlwinds of these cold regions and attack in threes, striking out at people from thin air.
