First day of the MLB Pipeline Spring Training tour for me.

Some prospect notes I’ve picked up from Brewers camp:

Tyler “Vinny Capra” Black, if you ask me.

Come for the hemorrhoids and centaur talk, stay for the stats talk.

Which could also lead to some awkwardness in the season. Stealing on a 3-2 count with less than two outs, call is a ball so everyone lets up but runner is still tagged “out”. C asks for review and it’s overturned to a strike for a strikeout. Runner stays at 2nd, or goes back to 1st, or is now out?

Savant has him as a -7 OAA 3B and +4 OAA at 2B.

Ortiz to 3B and Turang to SS?

I would also assume a speedy all-purpose player named Jett would hit from the left side.

Jett is a R/R B/T, if that’s the case you were trying to make.

Brewers 40-man players on final rosters for the World Baseball Classic:

Abner Uribe, Dominican Republic

Joey Ortiz, Mexico

William Contreras, Jackson Chourio and Angel Zerpa, Venezuela

Since we’re now in February, I’ve convinced myself the Brewers are going to sign Framber Valdez. That Eugenio Suarez contract gave me hope.

It would be the second time because they already lost to this same squad two weeks ago.

Brewers have "blown their team up" nearly every year in the last decade. They have the fifth most wins in that span.

Everyone hates a successful small market team, and what those teams have to do to be successful.

Those three payroll giants at 12-14 should be embarrassed.

Get to know the prospects Milwaukee acquired in the Peralta deal The Brewers sure do like to keep the wheel turning. After developing Freddy Peralta into a No. 1 starter, the organization moved the 29-year-old right-hander along with fellow pitcher Tobias Myers to ...

My breakdown of the Brewers' return below.

The short of it: Milwaukee loves short, speedy players (Jett Williams, check). It also should like a pitcher who can throw six different pitch types, features good velocity and generates groundballs for its great infield defense (Brandon Sproat, check).

They are not doing this because they don't want to pay the 8 million.

They're doing this because the fact he's making 8 million in his last year makes him a valuable trade chip for them to continue to restock their supply of young talent.

It's the #Brewers making the system work for them.

His competition would be Monasterio at this point, which could certainly be doable.

I know the Brewers trading their best starter only making $8 million coming off a 97-win season is going to be a narrative here; it's not the reason the Brewers dealt him. The Brewers feel they gain plus value trading a guy with a year left. You can argue with the process, but it ain't a $$ thing.
