It was also a packed crowd of young Black, queer, and trans people in a very traditional room of the São Paulo city council on a Friday night

The event had a long table of speakers and there was a big emphasis on bringing all communities along. The table included City Council rep Amanda Paschual and State rep Carolina Iara, as well as the legendary Neon Cunha

I went to a political rally of Black trans politicians in São Paulo, led by Deputada Erika Hilton, and it was a master class in transforming political space. It started with ballroom:

The US pulling back from global leadership on LGBTQI+ rights is further emboldening autocrats to take "anti-LGBTQI+ measures without diplomatic consequence."
