I play videogames and WoW specifically and that's probably enough for it. He's an ex-WoW streamer that went increasingly political and reactionary over the years.

Well not exactly, he very obviously meant something like "the naval combat" or "the naval gameplay" rather than "the navy".

The section was about marine combat, yeah.

Today on "weird things heard on YouTube": had a video on in the background and the guy kept using the word "naval" like it's a noun and not an adjective, he kept saying "the naval". Clearly a native English speaker, too. The hell?

Played some ZZZ. A bit shocked by it's production value and density, but also wondering if its battles actually get any variety from its dozen different progression systems.

Won't find that out tho, seems like unlocking enough of the game to really get a feel of that would take like 200 hours

Yeah I've read that people often put Rain Wild as their least favourite RotE series, but so far I've been enamored with the Rain Wilds, its magic, characters and dragons so I'm looking forward to it!

I have nitpicks of course, and the story goes to some dark places which could get genuinely upsetting. But overall this was a real page-turner, and with surprisingly satisfying endings for most characters, even minor ones.

Finished Liveship Traders and absolutely loved it.

I think it improves on almost everything compared to Farseer, which were already very solid books. Only the breakneck pacing of book 3 is a bit too much imo. But this cast and their part of the world have completely won me over.

In the bottom panel, the man labeled "me" nonchalantly tosses the plate down the hallway, discarding it with casual disdain while the first man watches.

Still, the highs are very high and the characters are phenomenal, so I'll stay for another round of misery with Liveship Traders. Hoping the protagonists are less frustrating than Fitz but I've read at least one opinion that it's the opposite so I'm not counting on it lol

It's weird, my favourite characters and individual scenes are all in books 2 and 3, but in their entirety 2 feels suffocating and 3 is a crawl through mud. Often they're tense in a thrilling way, but sometimes I just wished for the plot to move the hell on.

Finished the first trilogy. I mostly enjoy Hobb's slow, deliberate storytelling, but some parts of the story are nothing but relentless misery, it's both upsetting and repetitive. Book 1 ended up my favourite because it's a bit more balanced and Fitz actually succeeds at things, once in a while.

I don't know anything about fantasy, so when I've started reading the Farseer trilogy on a whim I did not know the "trilogy" is only a start of a 16 book series 😅

But now I'm on book 3 and absolutely hooked so I will see other authors in about 2 years, I suppose.

Oh the irony, to be unable to regularly play games during what is, apparently, a sort of turn-based combat renaissance. My time has come!! But it is postponed until my kid grows up a bit lol

If I ever have to get an Irish visa again... I don't, because fuck doing this ever again. Our documents folder is about to be like 20 cm thick at this point.

Yeah have to be extremely selective with what I play as well. Chose this because I adore Eora as a setting and to make a humble offering to Obsidian while I pray at my "please make Pillars of Eternity 3" shrine

Speaking of companions, I love how much inter-party interactions there are. Between discussions of your decisions, their established connections and loads of camp banter, it is a very fleshed out group with their own dynamic, not just the Envoy's hanger-ons. Love that for them.

Weirdly, I feel the writing gets better further on in the game, with the best stuff reserved for Shatterscarp and Tusks. Both central dilemmas are incredibly difficult, and your companions' arguments over them appropriately heated. Unfortunately, the gameplay lost me by that point.

Finished Avowed yesterday. Had a good time with it overall, but its rhythm got too repetitive eventually, to the point that I checked out and turned on YT in the background by the time I got to Galawain's Tusks. Regretted it, too, because the conflict around Solace is the most interesting one imo.
