Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?
If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.

The M/M relationships werenโt particularly prominent with Brandon S, but gay men actually existed, and they didnโt when RJ was writing!

And yes, one of RJ's limitations is that he is super heteronormative. F/F relationships were very much presented as "practice" amongst girls/younger women who didn't have access to men, and who later grew into heterosexuality. M/M relationships didn't exist until Brandon Sanderson took over.

I feel like Robert Jordan had a brilliant vision for the books, and that vision exceeded his capabilities as a writer (which is not to diss his writing which is still good). Whereas the show and its writers are really able to fulfil that vision in a way that RJ couldn't.

Yes, definitely stick with the show for now! Then read the books, and then watch the show again so you can appreciate all the easter eggs for book readers.

I feel like I have spent my whole life since I was 13 waiting for new WoT! First the books, and now after a few years of respite, the show (which I think surpasses the books).

So when JKR does not extend that empathy to a group of marginalised and often-rejected kids, when Neil Gaiman abuses women over whom he holds power, it's particularly horrifying because we know they are capable of creating art that...

But we know that JKR is capable of empathising with kids whose families reject them due to a part of their nature that is intrinsic to them. We know that Neil Gaiman...

I think this reflects our urge to believe that people who do bad or monstrous things are monsters themselves, rather than deeply flawed human beings who are capable of empathy, creating art, etc, in addition to doing monstrous things.
To me, this makes the terrible actions of artists I admire...

I donโt like how as soon as a creator is revealed to be a bad person people start saying โwell their art always sucked.โ No, unfortunately bad people can make good art and good people can make bad art. You as an adult should have enough emotional intelligence to navigate that

What the most famous book about trauma gets wrong
People kept telling me to read "The Body Keeps the Score." I was shocked at what it actually says.
OH, GOOD.
More people calling out the recycled Suppressed Memory/Satanic Panic bullshit known as The Body Keeps the Score.
Letโs do this more. A lot. Itโs a trash book that retraumatizes victims, victim blames, and valorizes violence against women and children.
And heโs a sexual harasser.

An ancient stone circle of short stones, approximately sixteen remaining, with a few gaps. The circle stands on a small patch of bright green grass, with a dark copse of pine trees behind it.
For my first #StandingStoneSunday, here's a lovely little circle in Dartmoor, taken on a trip in 2011. I don't know what it's called - we just saw it from the road and I had to get out and take a look (and a photo).
