When to seek help:
If you experience leg pain/swelling, sudden shortness of breath, or chest pain during pregnancy or postpartum, seek medical attention immediately. These could be signs of a life-threatening clot.
Prevention tips from the CDC:
Stay activeโmove around regularly and avoid sitting for long periods. ๐โโ๏ธ
Stay hydrated to help maintain healthy blood flow. ๐ง
Know your personal and family history of clotting risks.
Some Risk factors during pregnancy and postpartum:
- A previous blood clot
- An inherited blood clotting disorder
- A family history of blood clots or a blood clotting disorder
- Delivery by C-section
For more please visit: www.cdc.gov/blood-clots/...
Types of blood clots to watch for:
DVT: A blood clot in the deep veins, usually in the legs. Symptoms include swelling, pain, redness, and warmth in one leg.
PE: A blood clot in the lungs, which can be life-threatening. Symptoms include sudden shortness of breath, chest pain, or rapid heartbeat.
Why is pregnancy a risk factor?
- During pregnancy, a woman's blood clots more easily to lessen blood loss during labor and delivery.
- Pregnant women may also experience less blood flow to the legs later in pregnancy because the blood vessels around the pelvis are pressed upon by the growing baby
๐ Did you know that pregnancy significantly increases the risk of blood clots? The CDC highlights how changes in your body during pregnancy can lead to conditions like DVT (deep vein thrombosis) or PE (pulmonary embolism). Hereโs what to know. ๐งต www.cdc.gov/blood-clots/...
