Over a fifth (22%) of primary school children were absent from school for more than 20 schooldays in 2023/24.
Over 1/5th of Irish students missed more than 20 school days last year, with illness being the main reason at primary level & more than 1/2 of school abscences at post primary level being categorised as "unexplained". These figures cannot be normalised. #cleantheair

Student attendance has deteriorated since Covid, with more than 30% of students in Deis second-level schools now defined as ‘chronic absentees’
This illustrates exactly how the term, 'Covid' has come to mean, 'the non-pharmaceutical interventions adopted during the emergency phase of the pandemic', not the disease itself.
The 'Covid effect' mentioned in the piece is actually acute C-19 and its sequelae.

More than 20 per cent of children and young people in Aotearoa New Zealand are experiencing significant persistent health symptoms following Covid-19 infection, according to a new Otago-led study.
Big numbers. Bc of much less severe disease than in adults, authorities have gambled that COVID/long COVID in kids is of little concern. There's much evidence now to suggest that's wrong. There's a clear path to better protect kids. We should take it.
