One of the last times I met her was at the same conference in Galway last year, where her kind hearted spirit once again shone through despite her own personal health struggles. The paper she delivered on that occasion can be heard at the below link. Ní bheidh a leithéad arís ann.

Last night I was incredibly saddened to hear about the loss of @bridmcgrath.bsky.social . A formidable scholar with a huge passion for early modern history. But more importantly, a kind and generous person who will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. 1/2

“That they should be the ones to welcome Pope Francis’s coffin in the basilica is because these people are those who represented the focus of his mission,” said Father Giulio Albanese, head of missionary cooperation and communications for the Vicariate of Rome. “They are those who live on the peripheries, geographical and existential peripheries.”

The final honor guard for Pope Francis included migrants, prisoners, transgender people, the homeless and others selected by the Vicariate of Rome as a symbol of the late pope’s mission of inclusion and outreach.
