I got a "rude" label for replying to a Chuck Schumer post with "Resign, you impotent quisling." I thought I was making a concise, helpful suggestion, but πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ.

@govpritzker.illinois.gov why are you letting state police help ICE?

04.10.2025 22:01 β€” πŸ‘ 42    πŸ” 10    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Stop lying. Your state cops attacked protesters alongside ICE yesterday. I was there. I and others were violently attacked by ICE agents. Your state cops acted in concert with them during the attack.

Calling on @govpritzker.illinois.gov to do more than just utter strong words. Governor, it may be time to get out of your comfort zone for the people of Illinois and stop this.

Klein: I think, from your perspective and from my perspective, we probably don’t believe hugely different things. But a huge amount of the country, a majority of the country, believes things about [edit: the jews], about what policy should be toward [edit: the jews], about what language is acceptable to [edit: the jews], that we would see as fundamentally and morally wrong.

And what politically β€” not in a column or something, but politically β€” should our relationship with those people be? Do we win them over? Do we compromise with them?

This feels like a very salient question. The Republican Party is going to make sure this is a relentlessly salient question.

i took a stab at editing ezra klein’s most recent comments about trans people and electoral politics to make a point often lost by the american liberal commentariat

Hi @npr.org! We worked late tonight putting together this handy pocket guide!

It doesn't address road design issues, but if we're going to educate road users, we should include drivers.

It's the size of a folded business card. Print it, fold it, put it in your wallet!

If you are a white person who subscribes to the Washington Post, your solidarity should not be expressed in "feeling badly" but in cancelling your subscription today if you have one. Otherwise no one wants to hear anything from you.

Shopping for a plan on healthcare.gov. I had a question not covered by any materials on the website or linked to it. So I called #UnitedHealthcare to ask and the rep refused to answer unless I gave all my information so she could produce a quote. My question was about policy, not pricing.

MAHA Is a Bad Answer to a Good Question Podcast Episode Β· The Ezra Klein Show Β· 08/22/2025 Β· 1h 22m

You know, as a parent I'm a firm believer in natural consequences (as opposed to punishment).

It's not even that these guys never got punished.

They never experienced the natural consequences of insurrection.

Not after the Civil War.

And not after Jan 6.

None of these words are obscene so as far as I can tell the only reason to label this comment is if you disagree with the sentiment. 2/2

Just noticed that this got labeled as "rude." Here's my appeal: "Resign" is my constructive suggestion. "Impotent" means "unable to take effective action." "Quisling" is a politician who collaborates with an occupying force. 1/2

There is no such thing as liberalism β€” or progressivism, etc.

There is only conservatism. No other political philosophy actually exists; by the political analogue of Gresham’s Law, conservatism has driven every other idea out of circulation.

There might be, and should be, anti-conservatism; but it does not yet exist. What would it be? In order to answer that question, it is necessary and sufficient to characterize conservatism. Fortunately, this can be done very concisely.

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit:

There must be in-groups whom the law protectes but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

There is nothing more or else to it, and there never has been, in any place or time.

For millenia, conservatism had no name, because no other model of polity had ever been proposed. β€œThe king can do no wrong.” In practice, this immunity was always extended to the king’s friends, however fungible a group they might have been. Today, we still have the king’s friends even where there is no king (dictator, etc.). Another way to look at this is that the king is a faction, rather than an individual.

As the core proposition of conservatism is indefensible if stated baldly, it has always been surrounded by an elaborate backwash of pseudophilosophy, amounting over time to millions of pages. All such is axiomatically dishonest and undeserving of serious scrutiny. Today, the accelerating de-education of humanity has reached a point where the market for pseudophilosophy is vanishing; it is, as The Kids Say These Days, tl;dr . All that is left is the core proposition itself β€” backed up, no longer by misdirection and sophistry, but by violence.

So this tells us what anti-conservatism must be: the proposition that the law cannot protect anyone unless it binds everyone, and cannot bind anyone unless it protects everyone.

Then the appearance arises that the task is to map β€œliberalism”, or β€œprogressivism”, or β€œsocialism”, or whateverthefuckkindofstupidnoise-ism, onto the core proposition of anti-conservatism.

No, it a’n’t. The task is to throw all those things on the exact same burn pile as the collected works of all the apologists for conservatism, and start fresh. The core proposition of anti-conservatism requires no supplementation and no exegesis. It is as sufficient as it is necessary. What you see is what you get:

The law cannot protect anyone unless it binds everyone; and it cannot bind anyone unless it protects everyone.

I think it's now possible to make a poli-sci course that equips one for modern political analysis better than most classic theory and has a syllabus sourced entirely from random internet posts.
