(5) You might want to wait a bit before naming the character. You observe how they behave in different situations, where they might stumble or be held accountable, and you notice that the character is charming, yet there's something he's hiding. There's a sense that he wants to blend in with the

(4) and you're taken aback because it's soo simple yet exactly the right name for a tall, slender woman with dark hair and Finnish ancestry. Kamilla Immonen also becomes a melodically and aesthetically beautiful name, with the straight lines of 'K' and 'M' meeting the soft curves of 'I' and 'O'."

(3) Maybe you play around with different pronunciations and spellings. You know you want a name that conveys a hard sound in its pronunciation, but you can't settle on anything, so you turn around with that 'help-me-out-here' look to your partner in crime, who shrugs and says, 'Kamilla?'

(2) And then you realize that Juan can't possibly have a son named Jason, because you know that having two character names starting with the same letter confuses and complicates things for the reader, so Jason naturally becomes Gabriel.

(1) Do you spend an unnecessary amount of time coming up with names for your characters? Or do you, like me, change the name when half the story is already written, because Joel is CLEARLY not a Joel; he's a Juan through and through....
