Yeah. Disappointing.

Tried Dave’s Hot Chicken for the first time. I love me some hot chicken, but this felt too spice-forward. Almost torture porn. Chicken was moist and well-cooked, but the spice totally blew out any subtlety of flavor. More of a gimmick than a meal.

After 12 years and editing close to a thousand different writers, I've learned there are two edits that will transform a perfectly pleasant human into a nearly homicidal figure:
- Suggesting that a non-grammatical comma used as a pause could be cut.
- Changing an American's use of "grey" to "gray."

I’ve said this before and I’ll probably have to say it again, but if you run a game studio and you feel inclined to chase the latest “hot trend” you’re probably going to fail. Because trends move more quickly than you can replicate them. You missed that boat before you even heard of it.

And after all that, the Pitt/Cruise AI fight scene appears to have been just digital BG and face replacement on multi-angle green screen reference videos of two real live human stuntees fighting.

Let me tell you about the early days of The Escapist. It started as a magazine in miniature, published every week online and downloadable as a PDF. Every single page was hand-designed by a brilliant team of creatives. And every single word was crafted, edited, and published by humans. (A thread.)

It also got a bonus half-proofing by whichever tech person handled the HTML "PDF" layout in the CMS. We also verified the links/tagging as a part of the process we used creating/flowing the content templates.

Those were a lot of work across the whole company, but the end result was pretty great.

The Escapist, over time, became many other things to many other people. Not all of those things were good. But it started as a monument to writers whose voices could change the world, and the kind of writing that built careers. That mattered once.
