Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem should resign and be criminally charged, according to critics who seized on a report revealing that zero people who were arrested in a high-profile raid were charged with a crime.

Minor quibble with the word "appeared" but this is otherwise an accurate description of a thing that happened yesterday. If one of your loved ones did this you would be having hard conversations about giving another family member power of attorney over their bank accounts.

Fear of crime exaggerating the statistical risks is a constant of surveys over my 79 year life. Media and right wing politicians have much to answer for. And repairing broken windows
is good. Better still is socioeconomic policy enhancing security and welfare
