Students gathered around Penny Bickle in the cemetery, surrounded by autumnal leaves
Penny Bickle speaks to students in front of a large grave monument in the cemetery.
Earlier this month, @pennybickle.bsky.social took her MA/MSc Funerary Archaeology students to visit the York Cemetery, with the support of Paola Ponce. The field trip was part of the module 'Debates in Funerary Archaeology' and was aimed at exploring memory and commemoration at the York Cemetery.

An Etruscan Lady in York:β―The Grand Tour and Antiquarian Collections in theβ―Yorkshireβ―Museum
YouTube video by SocAntiquaries
Our very own Prof Maureen Carroll gave a fabulous lecture on the Etruscan Lady in York for the Society of Antiquaries last week. In the lecture, Maureen traces the fascinating history of a single object - what it is, where it came from, how it got to York and more!

Elizabeth Hicks working at the laser-aided profiler. She has a pot shred in her hand and itβs being scanned with a laser. There is an open laptop next to her. She looks like sheβs concentrating.
One of our fantastic @uoyarchaeology.bsky.social PhD students Elizabeth Hicks is using our new Wolfson-funded laser-aided profiler to quickly and accurately scan and photograph artefacts from the Swahili coast.

What a fantastic day yesterday was! Such a rich set of data and perspectives on kinship. I learnt so much. Huge thanks to everyone who made it happen. Also good showing from @uoyarchaeology.bsky.social with my paper, and Sophie Charleton speaking later on about the curious site of Banbury lane.
