Hypothetical ethics question: consider an excellent VAE trained on public data and publicly released. Then, encode a set of real human images to the latent space. Are these latent codes considered PHI?

The SynthRAD2025 Challenge focuses on synthetic CT (sCT) generation from MRI and CBCT towards MRI-only radiation therapy and adaptive MRI- or CBCT-based radiotherapy. There are two tracks and hundreds of PAIRED datasets, so please check them out if you are interested in medical image synthesis!
