Both go hand in hand, there's eroticism in the grotesque, theres horror in the sensual. Your "purity" about sex won't save you if you think making war is better than making love

Inspiration comes from the mind filling the void inside. Hard to make art when you're constantly silencing the silence with "content."

Do you ever listen to the playlist for an old project and feel like "yeah, I could finish this quickly, no problem."
Except that it's a novel and you absolutely would not be able to finish it quickly.
Dangerous territory.
Tragically, I designed demonic possession mechanics for a short story that never get revealed, because my first-person narrator doesn't know about them.
On the flip side, maybe I can use them for another story <3
The cover of the novel Death in Spring, which depicts a frog.
Loved the writing in "Death in Spring" by Mercè Rodoreda, translated by Martha Tennent.
"Behind us, the moon pinned our shadows to the ground, slowly casting them onto the river; it partially erased them, and joined them at the mouth."
Also, the cover is gorgeous! @openletterbooks.bsky.social
I decided to assign a Can Xue short story to my fiction students but I'm having such a hard time picking one. They're all so good.
