it's funny you say that- i'm not a huge RE guy at all and i absolutely loved 8 *because* it wasn't like any of the other ones. it was REALLY stupid and that was REALLY fun for me and my wife. i just started 9 so i'm really curious where i'm gonna land with it. glad to hear it's scratching your itch!

it slots solidly into my "enter the matrix is a bad video game that i love with all my heart" territory

wet is mid-to-bad and it's one of my favorite games

and while we're at it?! the dreamcast! it's not underrated. it's not overrated. it's RATED. it occupies the space in history that it deserves.

it's also a completely different game trying to do an entirely different thing. i'm not entirely sure what the comparison is beyond "they're western" and "SW is kinda open world"

SW is charming and creative and genuinely interesting but on a personal level, i've tried playing it 4 times and 🤷

i played RE4 at my first E3 and it made a hell of a first impression

nothing really more to contribute than "i wish i liked the end game more"

ok how about this: re7 is the first good RE and RE8 is the best in the series (i only started 9 tonight so i don't have an opinion there yet)

just a straight up hard disagree! it was a beautiful world that wasn't bogged down by the fiddly shit of the GTA series that dragged in the middle. there's a big difference between "overrated" and "i didn't like it"

but to your credit, you did sort of try to hedge against that in your first post

finally, RDR is the only R* game i liked enough to actually finish so go sniff farts

please understand that i'm not coming at this from the perspective of someone who loves these games but they're rated correctly- industry changing accomplishments that appeal to mass audiences that were also *insanely* ambitious for the time and pulled it off

legitimately insane takes, so i guess they can be classified as hot, but also just plain ol' incorrect lol

man, i really like looking at marathon but there's no way i'm ever going to have time to dig in to something like that

the menus and colors and fonts are exquisite

I have to imagine at least part of it was trying to avoid the absolute trashing they got regarding the look and performance of the last one combined with wanting people to actually buy the new thing
