Paper out!🌳🐾Vital role of human footprint in altering forest resilience after disturbances.
Forest resilience anomalies after extreme droughts relate to species richness positively or negatively, but when human pressure is included, its interaction with species richness diminishes forest resilience.

War is the biggest environmental crime on Earth.
Every bomb dropped poisons the air, the soil, and the water. Cities burn, ecosystems collapse, and generations inherit landscapes filled with toxins, rubble, and trauma. War doesn’t only kill people. It destroys the living systems that sustain life itself.
In a time of climate and ecological emergency, escalating conflict is a direct assault on the planet and on our shared future.
Extinction Rebellion stands against war.
Extinction Rebellion stands against ecocide.
A livable world cannot be built on endless violence. Peace, justice, and ecological protection are inseparable.

I was working on an animation yesterday when pretty sky colors appeared. My camera would not get them correctly so I decided to very quickly #speedpaint the scenery.

“Nature has so far balanced our abuse,” says Johan Rockström, a leading Earth systems scientist. “This is coming to an end.”

What lies ahead for planet Earth is becoming clearer in a rising tide of weather catastrophes: “soaring heatstroke deaths in India, Africa, and the Middle East; unprecedented wildfires in the United States; and escalating property damage and floods from tropical storms and extreme precipitation”

A four-panel comic titled "how to get into nature". In panel 1, a person kneels in the woods, looking down at a red-backed salamander, and the text says "notice a living thing." In panel 2, the text says "notice some other things that live near it," and there's a starflower, springtail, ant, little wood satyr butterfly, and salamander on the leaf litter. In panel 3, covered in creatures, plants, and a colorful starburst, the text says "Notice the connections between them, discover the wider ecosystem, learn about its histories, and find yourself following links from bedrock to stratosphere, between biotic and abiotic, at scales both microbial and massive, until you’re hopelessly overwhelmed by the wonder of it all." In panel 4, the text says "Fall into a daze and let moss engulf you." The person from the first panel is still kneeling in the woods, looking happy as moss slowly engulfs them, and they're saying "This is for the best."

I still remember when Istanbul had weeks of snow (yes, Istanbul!). When summers over 30°C felt alarming. When droughts and fires along the Aegean coast were exceptional enough to dominate the news for days. We normalize too quickly!

Four birds, which I spotted around Christmas, and which I otherwise see very rarely. I tried to draw them from memory. The shapes felt surprisingly easy to remember, but the colors and pattern were very hard. But it was a fun practice. #birds #sciart
