To everyone calling for a general strike: organizing events like this is a necessary practice run. You need to build collective power through organizing before you can wield that power.

Just my opinion
The difference between a UCP deficit and an NDP deficit is that with the NDP the money would've been spent on healthcare, education and making life better for Albertans
With the UCP the money went on their friends and donors leaving Albertan worse off in every way

Of the 150ish students I teach every year, easily 50% of them go by a name that can be considered a preferred name and is not the one on their birth certificate.
Why is it only a problem when adults are afraid of their gender expression?
transphobes still framing being trans as some tragedy they should be allowed to "prevent"
also designating this cis trajectory as "natural" thus implying we are "unnatural"
A government that revokes the rights of teachers as workers (for daring to demand better working and learning conditions) does not care about being an earnest steward of public education. We need to hold the UCP accountable for their dereliction and decimation of that responsibility and duty.

Lately, I've been thinking about the purposes of public education.
Here's what I've come up with.

Limiting sexual education materials was the goal. They want Albertans to be vulnerable.
This is not okay.
School boards are sending out the assurance survey to students and parents. There is a question about satisfaction with the health curriculum. If you are appalled at the state of sex education in this province, select "very dissatisfied" for this question. www.alberta.ca/alberta-educ...

When asked about teachers and EA's, SMith made the stunning claim she used the notwithstanding clause to SAVE teachers.

So, the petition to have a referendum to end the public funding of private schools in Alberta failed to reach the threshold.

The house that used to be my home was knocked almost right after it was purchased, almost a year ago now. The place did need to be knocked down. But that vacant hole was still there last I walked past.

And I'm wondering--I know a fair numbers of knitters or crocheters here, and you KNOW how we accumulate yarn and tools, and I wonder if I could find enough people up for donating used plastic or wood knitting needles or crochet hooks and extra yarn (or I guess $ to get new ones).

But that'll never happen!

This is not a big step.
This is the bare minimum.
We need food that is accessible and affordable, across the country.
The UCP government should simply do the right thing and respect human rights, respect individual freedom, and respect medical doctorsβ autonomy and professionalism. Rescind this discriminatory and hurtful legislation.

Whatever happens to Canada now, it is what it is.
If we can't live in truth and honour, if we can't live a life of freedom free from grovelling subjugation to the Mad King, then what are we doing? What did we all sign up for in Canada? It's certainly not subjugation to the whims of the USA.
I know we all like to rib Torontonians about their low tolerance for winter.
