LOWELL — Ice dripped, fire leapt, and Downtown Lowell felt less like a typical frigid, gray late‑February day and more like a city throwing itself a birthday party loud enough to wake all 200 years of its history.

Sounds like a vehicle just took off from a traffic stop on Mammoth Road in Dracut. The driver went across the border into Pelham. Pelham PD has been notified.

A woman in Lowell just called police to say a person just “offered her some drugs,” according to dispatch. The woman politely declined and then called police. The suspect has since left. Missed the address. Police investigating.

The Middlesex DA’s Office has just confirmed that the man struck by a Lowell Police cruiser while crossing Wilder Street on UMass Lowell’s South Campus on Feb. 5 has died. More info to come at lowellsun.com.

Just talked to witness on scene who said it was a Lowell PD patrol supervisor vehicle that struck a man who was crossing Wilder St in front of the McGauvran Center on UMass Lowell’s campus. MedFlight was called to transport pedestrian. CPR was done on scene.

CPR in progress. MedFlight requested. Avoid the area if you’re driving. Sounds like they’re shutting down a section of Broadway.

Reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Wilder Street in Lowell. Ambulance requested. Officer on scene told them to “step it up.”
