I've ditched so many cozy mysteries because of this. If you're going to write English nuns in the English countryside you can't have them go to the local cafe for Snickerdoodles! We don't even know what those are!

There was also a truly wild description of making coffee that took me out of the book for a full ten minutes of staring into space wondering if the author was new to earth, but I am not sure if research would have helped.

I just finished reading a book that I enjoyed but can't recommend to anyone because the characters spoke different English dialects and the author could NOT keep them in voice. (Kiwi kept saying "trunk" of the car while an American called it a "boot," for e.g.) Research really matters!

I have to remind myself of this from time to time. My mom could have left me for an indefinite period (days+) with my little bro when I was 15 and I’d have been pissed but fine. I would not feel comfortable doing that with my 15 yo but like … I’m proud of that. He is a BROTHER, not a sib-dad.

I agree with all that - the "what's it for?" big question is largely a cost/benefit thing but I ran out of characters- like right now some people try to prolong life by eating a minimal number of calories. So what are they getting for that? If it's 20 extra years of being hangry, is that worth it?

Well, it's complicated, right? Lifespan is already too variable dependent on access to power and therefore money or vice versa. So my first desire is a stable 100 worldwide. Then there's how much health/fitness we can extend. And my big question, what's it for? So right now, I'd probably max at 120
