Thank you all the program officers at NIH that persisted through the 2025 fiscal year and were able to fund 99% of the total FY2024 budget. I know this has take a toll on everyone at NIH. Yes, I am slower. In part due to caution and in part due to… really cold air is a little rough to breath. (Because it’s cold and I’m breathing through a scarf.) But I’m not a serious runner in the sense that I’m training toward an ambitious PR goal. Just getting out there every single day!

I don’t know if this is true and I don’t even feel a need to verify. I will celebrate regardless!

Honestly, and I’m not trying to brag here, the clothing part of staying warm doesn’t even get challenging until below -5F. More challenging is keeping your IPhone battery alive. Just know that if you aren’t cold for maybe the 1st 7 min of the run you prob are OVERdressed and will combust later. 😂

Oh and by ‘YakTrax’ I mean that genetically. Not that brand, I have better micro-cleat thing now.

I run outside all year long in Minneapolis. But on very cold days I’ll only do 3 miles. So my Jan. mileage dips a little. I try to run around 3-4pm if possible, the warmest time of the day. If there’s ice, then YakTrax. Snow is no biggie. My winter speed slows some.
