Like the US and every country France has changed a lot. I think there is an incredible article that the author can write about the opposition between this version of France and the French version of their own country in regards with many cliché like the relationship witch cigarettes

To present the fact that we don't want to work too much to have time for love affairs and philosophical debates feels a little bit offensive (as the strikes, August months etc). I think it is interesting that in 2025, the vision of France presented in the article is 60 years old.

As a French reader of The Atlantic, I was quite curious about the article, and to be honest, I am disappointed. It's very very cliché, I think it mostly represents the romanticised vision of an American. All the cultural references are from the 60s, the 35h week is wrong (it's much more complicated)
