Seymour Grove Cycleway options. Loving the geometry of this Cyclops junction.
10.09.2025 14:23 β π 5 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0This bollard is not good - dark even in daylight, dangerous after dark. The explanation is that it is there to force cyclists onto the shared path to the left. Never mind cyclists who want to go straight on the A56, or turn right on to Davyhulme Road East

(what about Edge Lane I hear you cry?)
With apologies for the very late re-posting, this is such a shame. Urmston has cycle stands outside most businesses on Flixton Road as well as the cycle stands outside the railway station, 2 sets in Eden Square and 1 set outside the library. All designed to enable and encourage cycling to the shops

A road with cars parked along the left. There is a red "road closed" barrier in the middle of the road, with two smiling people standing behind it wearing high-vis jackets.
We had a great day hosting our #SchoolStreets conference on Friday alongside @walkridegm.org.uk, with such inspiring speakers. It was an excellent opportunity to share good practice, and the pop-up School Street was a huge hit! Next one in October. @stocksyatlarge.bsky.social #GreaterManchester
19.05.2025 16:02 β π 16 π 5 π¬ 0 π 0There was a question on this post somewhere (else?) that is no longer visible which was where/how to resafely rejoin the main carriageway if going straight ahead towards Sale etc

Designed in danger?
The segregated cycleway along Chester Road passes the junction with Christie Road. Traffic is often queued south bound because of red lights and drivers kindly leave gaps for drivers from the north bound carriageway to turn into Christie Road
70% of wheelchair users said pavement parking was a regular problem, forcing them into the road.
London can ban pavement parking; why can't the rest of the country?
There seems to be widespread support for it; for example, 78% of Daily Express readers back a ban.
Let's do it.
Very welcome to hear the Transport Secretary using this line:
βEnrique Penalosa, a former mayor of Bogota (the capital of Colombia), once said: βAn advanced city is not one where the poor have to own a car, but one where the rich choose to use public transportβ.
Thatβs a vision I believe in.β

02.03.2025 11:07 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Finally, there was a generous comment that if another council wins the Walk Ride award next year then we are all winners. Well done again Trafford council for being well deserved winners.

25.02.2025 20:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Gaps have been identified which need to be filled to connect north Trafford to the excellent network in Salford & to connect Seymour Grove to the successful Chorlton cycleway. 25.02.2025 20:04 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This is such a good podcast & from a Trafford perspective it is good to listen to the enthusiasm of Tom & Aidan for building a cohesive network from what initially looked like random bits of infrastructure. It is acknowledged that now the challenge is to keep up the momentum
25.02.2025 20:03 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Dear Mr Gwynne, We were concerned to read your comments about your constituent's pleas for a safer network for cycling. We are a Greater Manchester-wide campaigning organisation with supporters in your constituency. We would be delighted if you would join us on a cycle ride of the area so you can experience for yourself the benefits of travelling by cycling and also appreciate why improved provision is urgently needed.
Walk Ride GM has today invited Andrew Gwynne MP to join a cycle ride in his constituency, Gorton and Denton.
He would experience first-hand the benefits of travelling by cycling and also appreciate why improved provision is urgently needed.
Have you booked your spot for the next Trafford Walking, Wheeling & Cycling forum on 10th March at the beautiful Stretford public hall? Bookings so enough chairs can be put out. Also watch out for details of a post meeting social.

Good insight into this issue. We often read comments about cycle lanes such as "it's only used by delivery riders". As if these people don't deserve to be safe while they're carrying out their jobs, delivering to "you".
