Great work by Dr. Minehart (former PhD student in my lab group)! Excited to see this important work out in the world.

Episode 57: Recreating – Balancing Fun with Ecology In this episode of β€˜In the Woods’, host Lauren Grand , Lane County Extension Forester, talks with Dr. Ashley D’Antonio, an associate professor in nature-based recreation managemen…

I had a great chat with Lauren for this podcast! And I even included my knitting as an essential piece of "field gear" for a recreation ecologist. πŸ˜€

I end my classes w/ time for students to write a short reflection of what they learned that day. I typically include a pic of my cats on the slide w/ the reflection prompt. Students have started sending me photos of their pets & plants to include on that slide. This brings me so much joy this term.

It was actually sunny today and my window cling made a lovely little patch of rainbows in my office. Hopefully a good sign on the first day of Winter Term. 😊

Been pretty quiet on here lately for lots of reasons but mostly b/c I was trying to disconnect during sabbatical.

But! Field studies are ramping up and I just got back from a lovely place with great colleagues from University of Montana. Yay for collaborative science!

We joked that I should teach in a disguise so no one would recognized me on campus while I am on sabbatical (the classroom is a β€œfish bowl” - all windows). πŸ₯Έ

On sabbatical this year, so I haven’t taught since March 2023. I guest lectured today for a grad student so she didn’t have to cancel class. I came home after and immediately napped. πŸ˜† I love teaching but forgot how draining it is - especially as an introvert.

I just did @SkypeScientist w/ a 5th grade class to help prepare them for a camping trip to a state park. The teacher is having them present what they learned about recreation ecology to the other classes going on the trip so they can enjoy nature while minimizing disturbance. ❀️

Since I am on sabbatical this term, I have been trying to work as little as possible on Fridays to give myself three day weekends most weeks. Today I used some of my free time to bake a β€œconfetti cake” covered in multicolored stars! πŸ’«
