Most people are fine with building housing in Chevy Chase Opinion: Three means by which people could share their thoughts about the redevelopment of the Chevy Chase civic core tilted toward pro-housing sentiment.

i'd encourage ppl to read this analysis that Dennis Sendros did of comments on the project: ggwash.org/view/101520/.... You can also read this from Dan Reed: ggwash.org/view/97613/c.... It's important to keep in mind how info is collected when piecing together a picture of public opinion.

couple interesting TILs:
* fully 38% of @ddotdc.bsky.social's cameras are on buses, to keep doofuses from parking in bus lanes. if you have ever ridden the D6X, these are partly why it didn't take forever
* most camera tickets not issued to ppl who live nearby (& 80% to out of state drivers)

Adams Morgan’s streateries are overwhelmingly popular. Forthcoming requirements put them and others at risk of vanishing Pete’s on-the-street interviews find that streateries on 18th Street NW, which the District paid for but is, nonetheless, about to dismantle, are overwhelmingly popular. Alex ruminates on the connecti...

Actual research and reporting from @peterodrigue.bsky.social, and a rant from me, about the likely end of the District's streateries, which is closely related to the fact that it is basically impossible to close a street to cars here: ggwash.org/view/101524/...

How, in 2016, we got less of Lanier Heights While the District’s population went up by 15% between 2010 and 2020, Lanier Heights’ population increased only 3%. A downzoning is a big part of the reason the neighborhood hasn’t grown.

in case it's interesting, recently wrote a little series about my neighborhood related to this!

(part 2 focuses on the future; part 1 is about the neighborhood's history)

How Lanier Heights could glow up With a little imagination and ambition, we can build a greener, safer, and more welcoming Lanier Heights.

in @ggwash.org, Nora Brown (planning student at VaTech), my mom (landscape architect), and I imagined what Lanier Heights could look like in the future.
Thanks to @imagineterrain.bsky.social & @dchistorycenter.bsky.social for sharing some neat neighborhood history.

Deep dive on the history of my neighborhood, the choices some (predominantly wealthier) residents made to curtail new housing construction, and the way those choices have shaped Northwest DC.

Per early data, Columbia Road bus priority project slaps View this post on ggwash.org

Adams Morgan was great. Thanks to new bus and bike lanes, it's even greater.

Columbia Rd Bikeshare stations seeing a 49% increase in ridership compared to they system's overall 35% increase is so validating. Columbia used to be so sketchy but the new bike lanes are a game changer for cross-town trips and heavy usage reflects this.

ha! i'm not sure i have a thought-out defense re: why we didn't name nonresponsive stores (wanting to be collaborative was part of it). fwiw between the time we started writing and publication, one place (not that grocery store) did install a ramp.
