Song Sparrow in lichen-covered branches

We successfully twitched a locally rare Eastern Phoebe at Basket Slough NWR today, but at distant range so got no decent pics. But this Song Sparrow serenaded us most of teh morning as we watched the field for our target #bird

Red-Breasted Merganser

The central focus is a male Northern Cardinal, known for its brilliant red plumage, prominent crest, and short, thick, red-orange bill with black feathering around it. The bird is captured in a slightly hunched posture, with its tail pointed down. The photograph uses a shallow depth of field, which keeps the cardinal and its immediate perch in sharp focus while rendering the background into a soft, blurred bokeh.
